WW2 School Trips

During our WW2 school trips, children will focus on The Home Front, where every British person is doing all they can to fight the war. Our Air Raid Precaution Wardens will meet your children, as they arrive as evacuees in late 1940, from an urban area.

On arrival the new evacuees are enrolled into the 1st Ufton Scouts and Guide units and throughout their stay they are trained to help their community and protect against raids. Learning how to make the best out of rationed items, crack codes and protect yourself in an air raid will all be a part of their World War II childhood.

For full immersion, please come dressed as evacuees with your gas mask!

Activity Options

Decoy Airfield and Camouflage

Imagine being a part of the Home Front, creating clever tricks to confuse the enemy! In this activity, you’ll help build a decoy airfield to mislead enemy forces, while cracking secret codes to protect your community.

Can you outwit the enemy and keep our airfields safe?

Life On The Farm with Air Raid

What would it be like to experience an air raid? In this activity, you’ll get a taste of life during the Blitz—practice staying calm in an air raid shelter, learn about the blackout, and discover what people did to protect themselves during bombings.

Can you make it through the night?

WWII Childrens Party

What better way to end your day than with a fun tea party? You’ll reuse old newspapers to decorate and prepare the best party ever! It’s just like the children’s parties that were held during WWII to lift people’s spirits.

Get ready to play, chat, and make the most of the little things in life.

Make Do and Mend

War means nothing goes to waste! In this activity, you’ll learn how to reuse old materials to make new items, just like the Home Front families.

Try your hand at rag rugging, button sewing, and stitching—can you help the war effort by making things last longer?

Den Building with Morse Code

Your mission: build a woodland den with your team to keep safe from the elements and 'enemy' attacks.

But there’s more! You’ll also need to communicate with Morse code to send signals to your fellow scouts.

Can you create the perfect shelter and send out a distress signal if needed?

Campfire Lighting

Gather around the campfire as we practice the fire-starting skills used during the war. You'll learn how to make a fire using WWII techniques and even cook a little treat over it!

What will you cook, and can you do it quickly enough before the air raid siren sounds?

Bow Making

In wartime, toys are scarce, but you’ll make your own bow and arrow, just like the ones used by resistance fighters.

Get ready to defend your home and pretend to be a hero! Will you have the courage to fight back against the enemy?

Crash Landing SOS

You’ve received an SOS message! Time to put your detective hats on and decode the distress signal.

Follow the clues to a crashed plane site, and uncover important wartime artefacts.

Can you figure out what these objects tell you about the person on board and the war effort?

The Propaganda Machine

Step into the shoes of a wartime reporter or advertiser, and get ready to boost morale and rally support for the war effort!

You’ll create your own news broadcast, just like the government did during WWII to keep spirits high and the country united. Will your words inspire a nation?
